Frequently Asked Questions

How does mobile golf cart repair work?

You describe the symptom by phone or form, we schedule a window, and a technician arrives at your driveway or garage with the likely parts on the truck. The $50–$100 trip fee includes the on-site diagnostic and is applied toward the repair when you approve the work. Most jobs finish in that same visit.

How much do new golf cart batteries cost in Bluffton?

A full lead-acid pack runs $1,200–$1,800 installed for most carts: 36V packs from about $1,200, 48V packs up to about $1,800 with premium brands like Trojan. That includes terminal service, watering, and haul-away of the old cores. Lithium conversions run $1,600–$3,500 installed.

How long do golf cart batteries last in the Lowcountry?

Roughly 4–6 years for lead-acid, but Bluffton carts trend toward the short end because there's no winter layup here. Year-round riding means more charge cycles per calendar year, and salt-air corrosion on terminals quietly steals capacity on top. Monthly watering and clean terminals push you toward the long end.

My cart won't charge. Is it the batteries or the charger?

Could be either, the symptoms overlap almost perfectly, which is why we test the charger's actual output and load-test each battery before quoting anything. Around here a third possibility is common too: a corroded charge port or main cable blocking current. The fix might be $150, not $1,200.

What does Bluffton's new golf cart ordinance require?

Since January 1, 2026, inside town limits: seat belts on every occupant, a rearview mirror, SCDMV registration with the permit decal on the lower-left windshield, proof of liability insurance on board, and working headlights, taillights, and turn signals for driving after dark. No streets posted over 35 mph without a designated lane, no roundabouts, and four-lane roads only crossed at traffic lights. Fines can reach $500.

Do I need a permit to drive my golf cart on Bluffton streets?

Yes. South Carolina requires a $5 SCDMV golf cart permit (Form GC-2), renewed every five years or when you change address, plus liability insurance. State rules limit carts to roads posted 35 mph or less within 4 miles of the registered address, driven by a licensed driver 16 or older.

Can I drive my cart at night in Bluffton?

Under the town's 2026 ordinance, after-dark operation inside town limits requires working headlights, taillights, and turn signals. Outside town limits, the state default is daylight-only, though state law now lets local jurisdictions set their own hours. If you ride after dark, get the lighting right, we install and repair it.

My cart clicks but won't move. What's wrong?

Most often the solenoid, the heavy-duty relay between the batteries and controller. It can also be a controller or motor fault, or simply a corroded main cable. We test in sequence rather than guessing; solenoid replacement runs $100–$250 installed and is usually fixed in one visit.

Why is my cart slower up hills than it used to be?

Voltage sag under load, the classic sign of an aging pack, is the usual cause, confirmed with a per-battery load test. But dragging brakes, low tire pressure, or a corroded cable can mimic it. The diagnostic sorts out whether you need $1,000 of batteries or $150 of brake and cable work.

Is lithium worth it over lead-acid?

For a daily-driver cart, the Sun City errand runner, often yes: 7–10+ year life, no watering, faster charging, steady power, at $1,600–$3,500 installed. For a lightly used or seasonal cart, quality lead-acid usually wins the math. We run your actual usage, not a script.

Do you service Sun City Hilton Head?

Yes. Sun City is core service area, all phases, Beaufort and Jasper county sides alike. Driveway or garage, same published pricing, usually same-day or next-day.

Do you come to Hilton Head Island?

Yes, including inside the gated plantations. Most island cart use is on private community roads, and we service carts where they live. Island calls sit at the top of the $50–$100 trip-fee range.

What brands do you work on?

Club Car, E-Z-GO, Yamaha, ICON, Evolution, and most others, electric 36V and 48V especially, plus gas carts. We're independent: not an authorized dealer or warranty center for any brand. In-warranty factory work belongs with your selling dealer.

Do you buy or haul away old batteries?

Every battery replacement includes haul-away of the old cores at no charge, lead-acid cores have recycling value, so there's no disposal fee and no 60-pound batteries left in your garage.

How often should golf cart batteries be watered here?

Check flooded batteries monthly in the warm months, heat speeds evaporation, and our warm season is long. Top up with distilled water only, after charging, just covering the plates. Low water exposes plates, which sulfate and permanently lose capacity. Sealed AGM and lithium need no watering.

My cart sat all summer while I was up north. What should I check?

Snowbird carts come back with self-discharged batteries, corroded terminals, seized brake hardware, and sometimes an oxidized charge port, humidity works on a parked cart all summer. A tune-up visit before you rely on it beats a breakdown halfway to the golf course.

Can you make my cart legal for the new ordinance?

Yes. Seat-belt kits, rearview mirrors, and full lighting (headlights, taillights, turn signals) are all flat-quoted installs, and we'll check the permit decal and paperwork boxes while we're there. One visit usually covers everything the ordinance asks for.
